Confusion has rocked the Professional Teachers’ Union of Zambia (PROTUZ) over the holding of the quadrennial conference where the union’s new leadership is expected to be elected.

This as one faction of the union led by current Secretary General Kangwa Musenge has organised a quadrennial conference at Garden House in Lusaka, while another group is waiting to hold the conference next month as guided by the Ministry of Labour

PROTUZ Deputy General Secretary Victor Muyumba tells QFM News that the quadrennial conference being held at Garden House is illegal as the government had given direction that the conference should be held in July from 18^th to 20^th.

Mr. Muyumba has since appealed PROTUZ members to remain calm and wait for the conference that will be held next month as guided by the Ministry of Labour.

He explains that in her letter to the union, Labour Commissioner Cecilia Kamanga indicated that the ministry will preside over the conference to be held in July and conduct the elections.

Meanwhile, the PROTUZ Deputy Secretary General has praised government for the timely release of teachers’ salaries for June, a move he says will motivate teachers across the country.
