Zambia is grateful to Mozambique – Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says Zambia is grateful to the government of Mozambique for its assistance in view of the energy crisis the country is facing.

President Lungu says Zambia’s economy is dependent on power for its growth and therefore the energy crisis was a threat to the country’s economy, but that Mozambique came to the rescue.

The Head of State said this at State House today when Mozambique Energy and Minerals Minister Pedro Coutu and Electricity of Mozambique Chief Executive Officer Mateus Magala paid a courtesy call on him to discuss energy matters.

And briefing journalists shortly after the closed door meeting at State House, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda says the President and the Mozambican delegation discussed in depth the implementation of the 1, 200 Mega Watts coal fired power plant to be established in Mozambique.

Mr. Chanda has explained that the project will be implemented under the auspices of the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) with support from the Japanese Government to help the two countries boost their energy sectors.

He says President Lungu emphasized that the project is priority to him and is keen to see to it that comes to life.
