Health Professions Council introduces licensures

The Health Professions Council of Zambia has introduced licensure examinations for all health practitioners who will graduate as at 1st June,2016 from both public and private universities and colleges.

Speaking during a quarterly media briefing in Lusaka today, Council Registrar Dr Mary Zulu says the graduates will be required to pass the licensure examinations before being registered and issued with a practicing license.

Dr. Zulu explains that the aim of introducing licensure examinations is to ensure provision of quality health services by registering only competent health practitioners to practice.

She adds that licensure examinations will replace examinations currently being conducted by the Examinations Council of Health Sciences.

Dr Zulu states that the licensure examinations will be under the auspices of the Examinations Department of the Health Professions Council of Zambia.

She has however, clarified that the new system does not concern the health practitioners who are already practicing.
