Zambia will play Lesotho in the Plate semi-finals of the 2016 Cosafa Castle Cup competition after they lost to Swaziland 4-2 on post-match penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time of the third quarter final played at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Sunday.

It was a case of deja-vu as Zambia, then coached by Honour Janza, lost on post-match penalties at the same stage to 2015 eventual winners Namibia.

After Zweli Nxumalo saw his effort come off the post and missed the opening penalty for Swaziland, Zambia’s captain Buchizya Mfune took the initiative to calmly slot past Ginindza in goal for Swaziland.

But Tony Tsabedze, Wonder Nhleko and Felix Badenhorst scored the three penalties that followed for Swaziland while Paul Katema and Spencer Sautu had their efforts saved by Ginindza.

Although Patson Daka converted his effort, the advantage was always Swaziland’s and Ginindza stepped up to score the penalty that booked Swaziland a place in the Cup semi-finals where they will face South Africa on June 22.

Lwandamina’s men will play Lesotho in the Plate semi-finals at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on June 21.
