The second celebration of International Yoga day was this morning held in Lusaka with particular emphasis put on how Yoga can help in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

And Indian Ambassador to Zambia Gaddam Dharmendra says this year’s celebration also places emphasis on enhancing awareness that Yoga is in fact holistic approach and not just a physical activity.

Mr. Dharmendra notes that for over 35 years now the Art of Living has spread the joy and benefits of yoga, meditation and breathing techniques across 155 countries.

He says these techniques allow for the blossoming of an individual’s potential to increase a sense of belongingness among people and communities and thereby creating a one world family.

Mr. Dharmendra states that Yoga therefore is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition which embodies unity of mind and body.

The first International Yoga Day was commemorated at the UN last year where India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj led the celebrations alongside UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
