Zambian aircrafts free to fly – EU

The European Union (EU) is to approve another program worthy 5.6 million Euros to help Zambia improve on the strides it has made in improving safety and performance in civil aviation.

EU Head of Delegation Alessandro Mariani has disclosed that the EU in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Civil Aviation Authority are already working on the modalities of the program.

Mr. Mariani says the program is expected to be approved by the end of this year and possibly implemented in the beginning of next year.

Speaking this morning when he formally announced the EU’s lifting of the ban on Zambian registered airlines flying into Europe, Mariani says the union expects Zambia to have growth in air traffic.

Mr. Mariani says it is thus important not only to be at par with this expectation but also to make sure that civil Aviation Authority is updated with the latest developments in international civil aviation.

He says the collaboration between Zambia and the EU does not therefore stop on the good news of lift the ban the Country’s registered airlines flying into Europe.

And Ministry of Communication and Transport Permanent Secretary Misheck Lungu expressed gratitude to the EU for the support which has enabled Zambia have the ban on its registered airlines lifted.

Mr. Lungu says the lifting of the ban has now opened up the Country to the European market.

Meanwhile Civil Aviation Authority Managing Director Gabriel Lesa says the lifting of the ban gives his authority impetus to perform ever better.
