Sinkamba seeks assurance Bill of Rights will not be tempered

Green Party President Peter Sinkamba has challenged Government to give the people of Zambia an assurance that the contents of the Bill of Rights will not be tempered with after the bill is passed in the referendum.

Mr. Sinkamba tells QTV News via telephone that his party is worried that the Government may alter the Bill of Rights when it goes to Parliament the same way they did with the current constitution.

He says government should respect the wishes of the people by not temper with the provisions of the Bill of Rights once people have approved it.

And Mr Sinkamba says the Green party is encouraging members to vote YES in the referendum which will be held alongside the general election.

Meanwhile, the MMD Felix Mutati faction says it is cautiously studying the contents of the Bill of Rights before directing their members to vote YES or NO in the referendum.

Faction National Secretary Raphael Nakachinda says despite the party being in an alliance with the ruling party, they will hold an independent view with regards the referendum.
