Government through the Ministry of Gender has expressed concern at the increase in Gender Based Violence (GBV) cases despite many attempts to combat the vice.

Gender Minister Professor Nkandu Luo says latest reports indicate that there is an increase of 7.7% in GBV cases in the country which she says is not inspiring.

Professor Luo notes that what is more worrying is that Zambia has the highest cases of GBV within the southern African region.

Professor Luo however says as a ministry, they will not relent to bring down the cases adding that her ministry has come up with a number of programs to stop the vice.

She says creating one stop shops which offer awareness training on GBV has shown positive results as perpetrators of GBV have after receiving the training been used to train other perpetrators and are therefore a powerful voice within their communities.

Professor Luo states that the setting up of the fast track courts in certain parts of the country has also helped in speeding the handling of all matters related to GBV.
