ECZ asked to share action plan for persons with disabilities

The Disability Rights Watch has appealed to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to share with them an action plan and a budget for persons with disabilities participating in this year’s general election.

National Coordinator Bruce Chooma says the Commission should also give an update on how far they have gone in ensuring that they procure all the required materials to assist persons with disabilities participate in the elections.

Mr. Chooma adds that they are also waiting for an update from the ECZ on how many persons with disabilities they captured in the mobile voter registration exercise so that they understand to what extent they will provide services to persons with disabilities.

He states that it is important that awareness raising in terms of facilities available for persons with disabilities is enhanced ahead of the elections.

Mr. Chooma adds that considering that the elections will be held alongside the referendum, it is important that as many persons with disabilities as possible take part.
