Chipenzi hails admission prisoners can’t vote

Electoral expert MacDonald Chipenzi has hailed the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for ably guiding the nation on the issue of whether prisoners will be allowed to vote in the August elections.

Mr. Chipenzi says it is gratifying that the Ministry of Home Affairs has admitted that Home Minister Davies Mwila was wrong to suggest that prisoners should vote in elections contrary to what the Electoral law states.

He says this is how it should be; stating that keeping quiet when senior government officials misinform the nation has its own repercussions.

Mr. Chipenzi says the guidance provided by both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the ECZ has now put the debate to rest.
