ZICTA explains Vodafone presence

The Zambia Information and Communications Technology (ZICTA) has dispelled the perception that that Mobile Broadband Zambia Limited trading as Vodafone Zambia is entering the market as a voice provider.

ZICTA Public Relations Manager Ngabo Nankonde in a statement says the authority has not issued a license permitting any entity other than the three existing mobile phone service providers to provide voice services to the public.

Ms Nankonde says Vodafone Zambia currently only holds licenses for A class Network for wireless internet and A class Service for internet.

She explains that these licenses only enable Mobile Broadband Zambia Limited to construct as data network and to provide data services to the public.

Ms Nankonde further states that Mobile Broadband Zambia Limited’s scope of operations and service offering are therefore strictly limited to the provision of mobile data services and not voice services.
