HH concerned poaching is fueling corruption

Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema says he believes the poaching wild animals in the Country’s national parks is being driven by criminals.

Mr. Hichilema says suspects that this is besides fueling corruption and threatening the rule of law.

In his World Environment Day message Mr. Hichilema notes that ivory trade for example is not only depleting elephant populations but harming Zambia’s economic development.

Mr. Hichilema notes that this is however not a problem for Zambia alone.

He is of the view that it is Africa’s problem and that only a unified voice can stop it.

Mr. Hichilema states that he thus commends the African-led Elephant Protection Initiative, which has brought together many nations to tackle this problem.

He is on the other hand concerned that government has failed to recognize that being part of the EPI would benefit the Country by boosting its much needed tourism industry.
