TIZ cautions Ministers

Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) has urged ministers who have not been adopted as parliamentary candidates not to abuse public resources between now until the next government comes in.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu says some ministers who have been left out might want to take advantage to plunder public resources especially that they will not be returning to their positions.Goodwell-Lungu-TIZ

Mr. Lungu says ministers should remain faithful and not abuse any public resources during this period as they will be held accountable.

Meanwhile, the TIZ Executive Director says his organization has partnered with the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to monitor the campaigns and that candidates found engaging in corrupt practices will be prosecuted by the ACC.

Mr. Lungu notes that in the recent past there have been cases of candidates being taken to court for engaging in corrupt activities during campaigns, and that this campaign is aimed at discouraging candidates from engaging in such vices.

And Presidential Candidates in the August 11 elections have been challenged to make a personal commitment to the principle of incorruptible leadership in a very practical sense.

Zambia Youths Association in the Fight against Corruption (ZYAFAC) Executive Director Rickson Kanema says incorruptible leadership is practical leadership that cannot be misused, bribed, or corrupted.

He says those who will respond to the challenge will show seriousness that they are ready to fight corruption.

Mr. Kanema says his organization expects all candidates to explain to the Zambian people how they intend to fight corruption.
