The Teranga Lions of Senegal will be seeking to cement their place at the AFCON 2017 when they face Burundi in a Group K Day Five clash on Saturday, 4 June 2016 at the Prince Louis Rwagasore Stadium in Bujumbura.

With 12 points from the previous four matches, six more than Burundi, a draw will be enough to hand Senegal the group’s automatic ticket to next year’s finals in Gabon.

Aliou Cisse’s charges beat Burundi 3-1 in the reverse in Dakar last June and are poised to maintain their 100 per cent record in the qualifiers. Moussa Konate, Mame Biram Diouf and Sadio Mane were on target for Senegal whilst Fiston Abdul Razak grabbed the consolatory strike for the visitors.

Ahead of the trip to Bujumbura, the Teranga Lions staged a 10-day camp in Rwanda, beating the latter 2-0 in a friendly last Saturday to gauge their readiness for the Burundi duel. Diouf and Sankhare Younnouse struck in the first half to secure victory.

“Our aim is to look for the qualification which is very difficult because we will be competing against good Burundi team. It will be hard to win but we will try our best to make our country proud,” Cisse told the media after the Rwanda game.

“Our players are strong and they have been improving. We hope they will do a good job. The game against Rwanda was good and we have learned a lot and it will help us to do better against Burundi,” he added.

Overall Senegal has qualified for the biennial championship 13 times.
