Government has been called upon to seriously consider the suggestion by electoral stakeholders to put on hold the referendum on the Bill of Rights.
Operation Young Vote (OYV) says government and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should not rush the referendum without building consensus with other stakeholders.
Executive Director Guess Nyirenda says his organization feels there is need to build more consensus before the referendum is held.
Mr. Nyirenda says this is particularly that the majority of the people do not even understand the aspect of the Bill of Rights.
He says OYV is also worried that the question that has been set for the referendum is rather bulky for the people to understand it fully.
Mr. Nyirenda adds that the answers to the referendum of Yes or No would have been represented by clear and distinct symbols.
