UNIP’s Tilyenji Kaunda files nomination papers

United National Independence Party (UNIP) President Tilyenji Kunda has successfully filed his presidential nomination papers for the August 11 elections.

Mr Kaunda who is the first of the nine presidential candidates to file his nomination was accompanied by his running mate Njekwa Anamela.

He handed in his nomination papers to the presidential Returning Officer Justice Esau Chulu.

Briefing journalists shortly after he filed his nomination, Mr. Kaunda lamented that democracy in Zambia has been killed as witnessed with the paper work required for one to successfully file in his nomination.

He says while party fought so hard that the country should be independent, the PF government is slowly killing those efforts.

Mr. Kaunda has also bemoaned the high nomination fees introduced by the ECZ describing them as undemocratic.
