Take problem of early marriages seriously, govt urged

The policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) says there is urgent need for government to seriously look into the problem of early marriages.

PMRC Researcher Chileshe Chaunga says the centre has observed that early marriages have resulted in loss of education opportunities especially among girls, in addition to girls becoming victims of violence.

Ms. Chaunga however, notes that while progress has been made by both the government and stakeholders in ending early marriages, more still needs to be done to end the vice.

She says there is need for continued sensitization on early marriages so that those marrying off girls desist from doing so.
