Violence characterized nominations in Siavonga

Violence characterized the filing of nominations for parliamentary and local government candidates in Siavonga today.

UPND and Patriotic Front cadres clashed as they escorted their party candidates to file nominations resulting in one person being hospitalized.

One PF cadre nursing injuries in hospital sustained in the fracas.

And Siavonga district Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has accused the UPND cadres of being behind the violence that ensued during the nominations.

Mr Kanyama has since appealed to the UPND leadership to tame their cadres.

He says there is no need to fight or kill each other over politics, stating that violence will lead to voter apathy.

Mr Kanyama has also appealed to the Inspector General of Police to send reinforcement to Siavonga to help curb violence.

Meanwhile two candidates have successfully filed in their nominations in a two party contest for the Siavonga parliamentary seat.

The two are PF’s Brave Mweetwa and UPND’s Darius Mulunda.
