Eight candidates have successfully filed in their nominations for position of Executive Mayor of Lusaka among them former first lady Maureen Mwanawasa who is contesting on the UPND ticket.

Others who have filed in are Wilson Kalumba of the PF, Reverend Alfred Banda of UNIP, FDD’s Cyril Muntanga, former Lusaka Mayor Fisho Mwale,Elias Mpondela,Kaweto Mwale and Martin Maisepe as independent candidates.

The candidates have all promised to transform Lusaka city into one of the best cities not only in Africa but in the world.

Dr. Mwanawasa says she wants to see a local authority that will be able to create job opportunities for the residents of Lusaka.

On his Mr Mwale has promised better livelihoods for the residents of Lusaka by ensuring sanitation and water delivery is efficient in the city.

And Reverend Banda says he has the desire to work for the people of Lusaka and is optimistic that he will win the election.

Meanwhile the filing in of nominations for presidential candidates has also begun although no presidential candidate had indicated to the Electoral Commission of Zambia to file in their nominations today.

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) public relations manager Chris Akufuna says the ECZ is set for the filing in of nominations.
