Delayed running mate to have negative consequences

Political Scientist Chris Zimba says the delay by some political parties to announce their running mates may have a negative consequence.

Mr. Zimba says announcing running mates early would help the people of Zambia assess  the running mate and then decide whether to vote for them or not.

He notes that announcing in good time would help political parties avoid confusions within their parties in good time citing that political parties would have enough time to convince party members who do not agree with the adopted running mate.

Mr. Zimba says the issue of a running mate should not be taken lightly because this is a person who will be the republican vice president and hence for them to announce so that Zambians have enough time to scrutinize their running mates.

He further states that whether they delay or not, they will still have to announce their running mates and so the earlier they announce the better for them.
