Zanaco stay second after victory

Ten-man Zanaco maintained second place and moved to within a point point of MTN FAZ Super League leaders Nkana following a 2-0 victory over Red Arrows in a week thirteen match played at Sunset Stadium on Saturday.

The bankers went a man down in the second half when Aaron Katebe was sent off for a deliberate handball, which earned him a second yellow card.

The hosts were quickest off the blocks when Rodrick Kabwe played in Saith Sakala, who was making only his second start since joining from Napsa Stars, to open the scoring on ten minutes and in the process scored his first goal in Zanaco colours.

Kabwe increased the advantage after he dispatched a penalty which was won by Logic Ching’andu with fifteen minutes remaining on the clock.

The result moved the undefeated bankers to 25 points from eleven matches and their fans will be hoping that Lumwana Radiants defeating Nkana on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Nkwazi played out a goalless draw with Lusaka Tigers in the first match of the double header at Independence Stadium, to stay in fifth position nineteen points, separated on goal difference from Green Buffaloes who were held to a 1-1 draw by Napsa Stars at the same venue.

And Kabwe Warriors moved into seventh position with 17 points from thirteen matches following 1-0 victory over Green Eagles thanks to Godfrey Ngwenya, who netted early from a free kick.

Mufulira Wanderers recorded their third win of the season, their second under caretaker coach Mulenga Chewe, after they defeated Nakambala Leopards 1-0 at Shinde Stadium thanks to a half time stoppage goal by Nchimunya Munene.

The victory, which came on the back of their 1-0 win over Power Dynamos a week ago, moved Mufulira Wanderers into eighth position with fifteen points, on goal difference from Nchanga Rangers (in ninth) and Forest Rangers (tenth) who played to a goalless draw in Chingola.

After thirteen rounds of matches Green Eagles, Napsa Stars and Lumwana Radiants join Mufulira Blackpool in the relegation zone.

Lumwana Radiants travel to Nkana on Sunday.
