The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia has cautioned students to stay away from active politics as this is a recipe of riots in higher learning institutions.

Speaking during the Thanksgiving Church Service held at the University of Zambia to commemorate Golden Jubilee of UNZA, EFZ Executive Director Reverend Pukuta Mwanza says riots are not the best solution of solving the problems.

Reverend Mwanza says since the institution was established in 1966, there have been cases of riots by students and stoppages of work by lecturers saying this should not be the case.

He says the institution must always engage in constructive dialogue if their challenges are to be resolved amicably unlike rioting or stopping work.

Reverend Mwanza has since advised students to be careful during this period of campaigns and refuse to be used by some politicians for their personal gains.

Speaking earlier, says as the UNZA Chairperson of Committee Council – Namucana Musiwa says as the institution celebrates its Golden Jubilee it is important that that serious attention is concertedly paid to issues to do with uniform staff conditions of service.

And First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda unveiled a plaque for the construction of the University of Zambia Jubilee Garden for unity, peace and wellness at the UNZA main campus along Great East Road.

Dr. Kaunda has since appealed to all Zambians to support this initiative as it is aimed at promoting peace not just at the institution but the entire nation.
