Prisons Care and Counseling Association (PRISCCA) says the pardoning of 554 prisoners by the President ahead of the Africa Freedom Day which falls tomorrow is a demonstration of Zambia’s declaration as a Christian nation.
PRISCCA Executive Director Godfrey Malembeka notes that the pardoning of the 554 prisoners brings the total number of those pardoned in three years to 6,000 which he says is commendable.
Mr. Malembeka notes that other than just giving the prisoners freedom, the gesture by the President will also help decongest prisons in the country.
He says he is hopeful that the pardoned prisoners will take advantage of their freedom to verify their voter registration status so that they are able to vote come August 11th.
