The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has resolved to allow the ongoing verification of Grade 12 certificates by the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) and other institutions to continue.

ECZ Public Relations Manager Cris Akufuna says this means that aspiring candidates are now free to  submit their validation letters and other documents on the nomination day.

In a statement made available to Qfm News  Mr. Akufuna has disclosed that this decisions were arrived at following consultations with stakeholders.

Mr. Akufuna says the commission will strive to receive the nominations of candidates who will not be in possession of the Grad 12 certificate validation letters.

He notes that such nominations will however  be provisionally accepted until the commission has authenticated such qualifications with the ECZ and other institutions.

Mr. Akufuna has clarified that the nominations of candidates who will submit the validation letters will be determined by the Returning Officer immediately.

And Akufuna says the commission has additionally resolved that the current provisional register of voters will be used for the purpose of ascertaining registered  voters.

He says this entails that all persons whose names appear in the provisional register will qualify to contest elections and support a candidate of their choice during the nominations.
