The Ministry of Agriculture has agreed to allow the export of 22,000 metric tonnes of maize bran effective today.

This follows a request made by the Millers Association to the ministry two months ago to be allowed to export the product.

Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda says the decision to allow the export of maize bran follows consultations with the Zambia National Farmers Union and the Millers Association of Zambia.

Mr. Lubinda however, states that the ministry will allow an initial quota export of 15,000 metric tonnes.

He says this quota will be allocated to Millers Association Members and non members as well as small bran traders under the name Stockfeed Exporter and Importers Association of Zambia.

Mr Lubinda adds that the ministry has also allowed brewer grit to be exported; taking into consideration that one miller on the Copperbelt has had a long standing contract with a company the Democratic Republic of Congo.
