125 solar powered milling plants installed

Zambia Co-operatives Federation (ZCF) Director General, James Chirwa says a total of 125 solar powered milling plants have so far been installed under the presidential initiative.

Mr. Chirwa says the next batch of solar milling plants is expected in the country next month.

He has reiterated that the milling plants will be installed in all parts of the country with the objective to produce cheaper mealie meal.

Mr Chirwa adds that the solar-powered milling units will produce a combined 120,000 metric tonnes against a national demand of 150,000 metric tonnes.

He states that the solar powered milling plants will at full production capacity be able to satisfy the local market and also be able to export some.
