ZCSD cautions govt over NGO Act of 2009.

The Zambia Center for Social Development (ZCSD) has advised government not to push Civil Society Organizations against the wall by deceiving them on the enforcement of NGO Act of 2009.

ZCSD Executive Director Lewis Mwape says the recent advertisement by the Ministry of Community Development calling on civil society organizations to register under the Act is unfortunate.

Mr. Mwape says government and civil society organizations agreed to repeal the Act, but that government has u-turned by forcing CSOs to register under the same Act.

He says it is evident that the civil society in the country has rejected this piece of legislation and thus the need for government to repeal it completely.

Mr. Mwape says government through the Ministry of Community Development should not push the civil society to register.
