Govt urged to revise maize floor price

UPND Chairman for Rural Reconstruction and Development Moono Mapani has urged the government to respond positively to the rejection of the 2015/16 marketing season maize floor price by farmers.

Mr. Mapani says most rural farmers have made it categorically clear that the announced K75 per 50kg bag of maize is not enough considering the high cost of production.

Mr. Mapani says government should have consulted widely before imposing the maize floor price on the farmers.

He says government should heed the concerns the farmers have raised with the announced maize price and adjust it upwards.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mapani has called on President Edgar Lungu to direct security wings to investigate the issuance of voter’s cards to foreign nationals.
