Chief Mukobela of the ILA people in Namwala district says a shared and collective effort by all stakeholders in child protection is needed to eradicate child marriage in the country.

Chief Mukobela says the staggering number of children who are married off before the age of 18 is worrying calls for concerted efforts by all to nip the phenomenon in the bud.

He says the persistent nature of the practice, prevalent in Zambia, is a draw back to the country’s development, cautioning that serious action needs to be taken to reverse the debilitating practice.

Chief Mukobela says with the commitment and renewed efforts to end the practice; he is optimism that a zero tolerance for child marriage as envisioned would be achieved.
