The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has urged farmers in the country to wait for the resolutions of the ongoing consultations over the maize floor price.

According the ZNFU Weekly Brief made available to QFM News, ZNFU officials on Friday met the Minister of Agriculture Given Lubinda, to discuss the 2015/16 agriculture marketing modalities.

This follows concerns and inquiries from farmers in Central, Eastern, Northern, North Western and Western provinces on the maize floor price, exports of last year’s stocks and other challenges faced by farmers in the movement of maize stocks to markets.

Mr. Lubinda has since requested the Permanent Secretary to ensure that government security wings allow free flow of maize within the country and the Union will make follow-ups to ensure that this is done accordingly.

Further the Agriculture Minister has reconfirmed his earlier announcement that farmers with last year’s maize stock which was verified by the Ministry during the last stock verification exercise are allowed to export their commodity.

The ZNFU team was led by its President Dr. Evelyn Nguleka who was accompanied by the 2nd Vice President, Mr. Graham Rae and staff from Secretariat.
