Publish manifestos, YALI tells parties

Isaac Mwanza YaliThe Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has called on political parties contesting in this year’s general elections to make their manifestos public as a matter of urgency.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says there is need for all the political parties to produce their manifestos to give the electorates time to scrutinize the parties’ policy blueprints.

He is concerned that three months before the August general elections, no political party has so far issued any manifesto or indicated when it would be released for review.

Mr. Mwanza says his organization is uncomfortable about this loud silence over party manifestos, particularly at this crucial time on Zambia’s political calendar.

He says manifestos are the authentic policy blueprint of political parties that also guide electorates.
