Government has been urged to consider increasing the maize price because the production cost has doubled.

Chief Mukobela of the ILA people in Namwala district is not happy that government has maintained the floor price for maize at 75 Kwacha for a 50 kilogram bag.
He says there is need for government to engage farmers before announcing the maize floor price.
Chief Mukobela notes that farmers will lose out because farming inputs are bought at a high price due to the poor performance of the kwacha.
He says that government should have given the farmers a good price to avoid a situation where farmers start smuggling the produce to neighboring countries.
