Ministers will remain – Lungu

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says Ministers will remain in their positions after the dissolution of Parliament today.

President Lungu says the republican constitution is clear when it states that Ministers in the current Cabinet have to handover to a new cabinet after a general election.

He has wondered how Ministers in the current cabinet will handover responsibilities to the new cabinet if they get dissolved together with Parliament.

President Lungu is however, of the view that given that this matter is going to the Constitutional Court, the Court should be allowed to determine the interpretation of the law.

He states that before that happens; the current composition of Cabinet will remain as it is.

President Lungu states that in spite of the law being clear on the matter at hand, he will be fine with whatever the Courts will determine on the status of Ministers.

He was speaking to journalists at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this morning shortly before departure for Uganda to attend the inauguration of President Yoweri Mseveni who recently won reelection.

And President Lungu has promised the people of Zambia peaceful elections.

He says government intends to look for funds for purposes of training Police officers and capacitated them with the maintenance of peace and order during the election period.

President Lungu adds that the ruling party on its part does not intend to take the law in its own hands during this period.
