United Independence Party (UNIP) President Tilyenji Kaunda has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to set a tone for peaceful polls.

Mr. Kaunda says the signs for peaceful elections are not good although he is more optimistic that the country is likely to have change but that the recruitment of crime preventers into the electoral process is not a projection of free and fair elections.

He has implored the Electoral Commission of Zambia to hold the elections in the most transparent and fairest manner so as to leave all parties involved satisfied with the eventual election outcome.

Mr. Kaunda says there is need for the Electoral Commission Zambia to guarantee Zambians that they will conduct free & fair polls.

He says if there is election violence, ECZ Commissioner Justice Esau Chuulu and his team will be the ones to blame.
