Politicians asked to comply with electoral code of conduct

Political players in the 2016 electoral race have been urged to fully comply  and subscribe to the electoral code of conduct as backed by constitutional provision in Article No. 60 clause 2  (g) .

Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) Acting Executive Director Chimfwembe Mweenge is also urging political players to realise that fanning violence and all its forms as witnessed most recently and last year  during presidential by election  in certain areas claimed to be political strongholds  or no go areas for certain political parties  shall not be tolerated.

And Mr. Mweenge says his organization has welcomed the official announcement of the campaign period by the Electoral Commission of Zambia and that political parties should use this opportunity to sale their manifestoes more truthfully, accountably and realistically.

He says Zambians are expecting less of sloganeering but more of realistic policy alternatives to the social, economic and political malaise facing the nation.

He tells QFM News in a statement that Zambians also expect competitive campaign messages around how to reduce mealie meal prices, load shedding, youth unemployment, macroeconomic stability, improving governance conditions and so on.

Mr. Mweenge says it is the expectation of his organization that political parties will campaign peacefully, responsibly, tolerable within the confines of article No 60 of the amended constitution No 2 of 2016 abhorring hate speech, name calling, violent behaviours and all forms of intimidation against each other and the general populace.
