People’s Party President Mike Mulongoti has cautioned his fellow politicians against using alarming statements ahead of this year’s general elections.

Mr. Mulongoti has observed that this year’s elections will be competitive and there is no need to start issuing alarming statements saying such things may cause chaos in the country.

He says elections are not about tribes neither are they a beauty contest, hence the parties must refrain from unguarded statements that do not place food on the table of ordinary Zambians.

Mr. Mulongoti has also asked political parties to focus on important socio-economic issues such as cost of living, unemployment, housing and sanitation and not trivial issues.

He notes that this year’s election must not be about issues that divide the country and undermine national unity and cohesion.

Mr. Mulongoti is also urging the media to set the right agenda that will inform the choices of Zambian’s in an intelligent way.
