ZAMCOPS Board Chairperson Edify Hamukale with former Information & Broadcasting PS Amos Malupenga

The Zambia Music Copyright Protection Society (ZAMCOPS) has terminated the distribution contract of Zambian music with a Kenyan company called AFRICHA.

ZAMCOPS Board Chairperson Edify Hamukale in a statement says it has come to the his organisation’s attention that the AFRICHA has been selling ZAMCOPS members’ music online.

Dr. Hamukale says AFRICHA has further sublicensed 51 Lex Records,which is the official African representative of the Orchard of New York one of the biggest world distributors of online music.

He says ZAMCOPS was not aware of the contract at the time of signing as this was done without informing them and consulting the members who are the copyright holders of the distribution rights.

Dr. Hamukale however, states that according to the contract, it will 180 days from the date of termination for the music to finally be removed from all internet websites.

He adds that ZAMCOPS will endeavor to recover monies that might be owed to its members whose music will have been downloaded and sold in this period.
