Campaign for Clean Politics warns of voter apathy in August

Campaign for Clean Politics (CCP) has warned of voter apathy in the August 11th general elections if the issue of ritual killings is not fully addressed in the Country.

The CCP which is a civil society organization that champions clean and issue based politics is concerned that the killings are creating fear and terror in the minds of the people.

Executive Director Justine Katongo says his organization therefore foresees a situation where people will confine themselves to homes before 06:00hours on polling day.

Mr. Katongo states that for the fact that voting starts at 06:00hrs, the CCP anticipates that if ritual killings are not curbed, no one will dare to go out and queue as to vote early as 04:00hours.

He says while his organization is still asking questions with regards to the real motive of the killers, it challenges the police to deal with this issue with the firmness it deserves.

Mr. Katongo says the CCP exhorts the Police to treat this situation with the same urgency that is attached to traffic offences and political cases.

He says his organization on the other hand condemns attacks on foreign nationals that followed the spate of ritual killings in Lusaka.
