Gender Minister Professor Nkandu Luo disclosed this during the launch of the awareness campaign on ending child marriage and child prostitution in Lusaka’s Chawama Township today.

Professor Luo says government does not want girl children to drop out of school in the name of lack of sponsorship.

She says government is committed and working on improving the laws that will continue protecting children and bring to an end forced child marriages and prostitution.

Professor Luo has applauded various stakeholders for embarking on programmes aimed at protecting children’s rights by combating child marriages and encouraging them to go to school.

And speaking earlier, Advocacy for Child Justice Executive Director Josphat Njobvu whose organisation was launching the awareness campaign disclosed that so far 54 children have been withdrawn from child marriages and prostitution in the last four months by his organisation.
