Veteran duo omitted from Cosafa squad

Striker Christopher Katongo and midfielder Isaac Chansa have been omitted from Zambia’s 22-member 2016 Cosafa Cup team, unveiled on April 20 for the tournament to be held in Namibia from June 11-25.

Chansa of Zanaco and Katongo from Green Buffaloes both ended their Zambia exiles this year when they helped Chipolopolo to the quarterfinals of the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan).

They were later featured in the 2017 Africa Cup Group E doubleheader qualifier against Congo-Brazzaville at home on March 23 and away on March 27 that both ended 1-1.

However, Lwandamina has kept faith in most of his Chan team from the January tournament in Rwanda.

Zambia will enter a provisional training camp from April 24-27 in Ndola.

Chipolopolo will go into the April 25 Cosafa Cup draws on a preliminary round bye and will enter the competition at the quarterfinal stage together with South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, DR Congo and holders Namibia.
