Two burnt to death in ‘xenophobic’ attacks

Munganga Chanda CThe Zambia Police Service says two people have been burnt to death following sporadic attacks on foreign owned shops in some Lusaka townships.

Police Spokesperson Charity Chanda in a statement to QFM News says the two died after being burnt alive in Kanyama compound on Tuesday, 18th April 2016 by those who were rioting.

And Ms. Chanda says Police are concerned with the growing speculation on social media with regards the ritual murders.

He says those spreading false rumors on social media are creating anxiety or fear in members of the public and are alarming the nation, which constitutes an offence.

Ms. Chanda points out that the false statement going round about the use of chloroform by the ritual killers is not coming from the Police, stating that no nurse has been arrested, and that no baby or human body parts were found in any fridge belonging to any foreign national.

Ms. Chanda says these statements are coming from people with criminal minds to create alarm among members of the public and justify their criminality.

The Police Spokesperson has since reassured members of the public that the police are doing
everything possible to protect lives and property.
