President Lungu orders special operation on ritual killings

President Edgar Lungu has ordered a special operation by law enforcement agencies to clampdown on ritual killings and the subsequent riots emanating from such killings.

President Lungu says the order which he issued last night follows the realization that lawlessness begun crippling in after ritual killings took precedent in the Country.

He has told Journalists at State House this afternoon that as Head of State, he cannot allow criminal elements to advantage of the situation.

President Lungu says the special operation order is being revised on a daily basis and that if the situation returns to normal the operation may not be necessary.

And President Lungu has warned that he might be forced to take more drastic measures if the current situation in the Country is politically motivated.

He says he cannot allow the playing of politics with people’s lives as his duty as Commander -In- Chief is to ensure that all citizens go about their business without any injuries coming to them.

Meanwhile President Edgar Lungu has cautioned traditional leaders that he will not tolerate the perpetration of tribalism in any Chiefdom in the Country

President Lungu says he has received reports that some people that have gone to settle in Muchinga province want to impose customs and values that are foreign to some chiefdoms.

He states that he finds it unacceptable that such people can attempt to colonize a part of Muchinga province only because they have been given land rights.

President Lungu says whenever people settle in a region they do not originate from, they have to respect traditional leaders and their customs and values.

He was speaking this morning when he hosted 25 chiefs from Muchinga province at State House for a meeting meant to discuss their individual chiefdoms’ development prospects and how government can enhance service delivery to the people.

And president Lungu says he is aware that some chiefs in Muchinga province have preferences of certain people in spite of the call that they should not take part in partisan politics.

And Chiefs from Muchinga have pledged their full support to President Lungu.

Spokesperson of the 25 chiefs Chief Kabinga of Mpika District told journalists shortly after the meeting that it will be naive for chiefs to think otherwise barely 5 years of the PF administration.
