Nine Zambians, two foreigners arrested in connection with ritual killings

Davies Mwila

Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila says nine of the eleven suspects arrested in connection with the ritual murders in Lusaka are Zambians, while two are foreigners.

He says Police are committed to finding the criminals behind the murders that have rocked the capital city.

Mr. Mwila says the criminals will be hunted down and be made to account for their evil actions.

And Mr Mwila told Parliament in a ministerial statement that as acting Defence Minister he was prompted to bring in Zambia Army reinforcements to help contain the sporadic outbreak of attacks on shops owned by foreign nationals in townships.

He says the situation in the township has now returned to normal and that the Zambia Army officers will be withdrawn tomorrow.

Mr. Mwila says the criminals behind attacks on foreign nationals have dented the reputation of Zambia as a haven and sanctuary for those who leave their countries on account of insecurity and persecution.

He says the attacks on people and property regardless of the nationality of the persons involved is criminal and cannot be condoned.
