The High Court has ruled that the opposition MMD should hold its convention in accordance with the party constitution.

Addressing hundreds of MMD supporters who gathered at the High Court grounds to hear the outcome of the court case in Lusaka today, MMD National Secretary Mwansa Mbulakulima says the convention has since been set for between 20st and 22nd May, 2016.

Mr. Mbulakulima says Dr. Nevers Mumba is now an ordinary member of the party and has asked him not to dare step foot at the party secretariat.

He says he has since taken charge of the party until a new leadership is elected at the convention.

Mr. Mbulakulima adds that he has obtained relevant documents to ensure nothing disturbs the holding of the convention.

He states that in event Dr. Mumba appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court ruling, it will take about six months to hear his complaint by then the convention would have been held.

And speaking to journalists shortly after the court ruling, suspended MMD Spokesperson Raphael Nakachinda says an interim leadership will be put in place which will guide the party in holding the convention.

He says Dr. Mumba now has a chance to prove his popularity in the party by re-contesting his position at the referendum.
