President Edgar Lungu has called on the traditional leadership in the country to accommodate all political players who will be visiting their chiefdoms for campaigns ahead of the August 11th general election.

The Head of State said this when he met 25 chiefs from Northern Province led by Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people.

President Lungu says he is aware that some people have declared certain areas no go zones for certain political parties, urging chiefs to guide their subject on this matter.

He says there is need for chiefs to ensure all people are received well and accommodated as they will be seeking to meet the electorates in different parts of the country.

And President Lungu says chiefs should also help in ensuring that political players do their campaigns freely without engaging in any form of violence by providing the necessary counsel to them.

And speaking on behalf of the Chiefs, Chief Mphande of the Mambwe – Lungu people of Mbala District says the traditional leadership in the province is worried that Northern and Eastern Provinces do not have universities making it difficult for the people to access higher learning education.

Chief Mphande has also reminded the President that the people of Northern Province are still waiting for the promise he made during campaigns last year to create five new districts in the province to ease the delivery of basic services to the people.

Earlier, President Lungu met a high powered delegation from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) which is in the country for talks on improving trade relations between Zambia and that country.

President Lungu assured the delegation of government’s commitment to improving trade between the two countries more especially with regards the food supply chain.

He says in as much as the two countries would want to help each other, there is need for traders to follow the laid down procedure in importing maize and mealie meal.

And leading the delegation, Congolese Mines Minister Martin Kabwelulu says the delegation hopes the meeting will help in dealing with the maize trade between the two countries as the commodity has a lot of market.
