KATE Middleton and Prince William have paid a heartfelt tribute to Princess Diana.

The Duchess and Duke of Cambridge – who are currently on a 7 day tour of India – visited the Taj Mahal earlier today.

While enjoying the World Heritage site, Kate and Will made a quick stop to sit on the same famous bench Diana had sat on 24 years before.

The couple beamed as they posed for photographs at the same spot William’s mother had when she visited the palace in 1992, at the height of speculation over her marriage to Prince Charles.

Kensington Palace took to Twitter shortly after the couple followed in Diana’s footsteps.

“The Duke and Duchess at the Taj Mahal ,” they captioned the photograph.

Even the bench – which has it’s own social media pages – took to Twitter with a message that read: “The bench is ready for the royal bottoms!  .”

Followed by: “I was graced with the royal bottoms!  .”

The bench became a tourist attraction after Princess Diana coined it “very healing” when she visited.

According to The Mirror, a spokesman for the couple said: “The Duke of Cambridge is of course aware of the huge esteem his mother, the late Princess of Wales, is held in in India and he appreciates the status of the images that exist of the Princess at the Taj.

“He feels incredibly lucky to visit a place where his mother’s memory is kept alive by so many who travel there.

“Twenty-four years on from her visit to the Taj, the duke and the duchess are looking forward to seeing this beautiful place for themselves and creating some new memories as they say thank you to the people of India at the conclusion of this tour.”
