ZABS serves product rejection notice to Shoprite

The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has served a product rejection notices to Shoprite supermarket in Chingola and at Ndola’s Kafubu Mall.

ZABS Head of Marketing and Public relations Hazel Zulu says some of the rejected and confiscated products include Coco Pops, a rice grain breakfast cereal which expired as far back as the 13th March 2016 and assorted chocolates from Ndola Shoprite.

She says the Zambia Bureau of Standards is concerned because the quality of expired products cannot be guaranteed and is therefore a risk to the health of consumers and a detriment to the development of the country.

Ms. Zulu has reminded all importers and traders that selling of expired products is a crime and therefore a violation of the standards Act and that ZABS will not hesitate to penalize such traders.
