President Edgar Lungu says the PF Government seeks to make Zambia the food basket of the region.
Speaking when he officially opened the Agritech Expo Zambia 2016 in Chisamba today, President Lungu says government is poised to achieve that given the abundant resource base in terms of land, water, labour and favourable weather conditions.
He has since urged farmers to rise to the challenge and take agriculture to higher heights.
President Lungu adds that despite the challenging weather conditions Zambia has remained food secure in the previous and forthcoming seasons.
He says the country is assured of food security arising from the positive crop forecast for 2016.
President Lungu has attributed the good harvest the country recorded last year and this year’s anticipated good harvest to prudent policy decisions.
He says the PF government remains focused on making sure that it consolidates these achievements and transform agriculture into a stable, viable and reliable business that must contribute considerably to the country’s export earnings.
