Republican President Edgar Lungu has hailed the relocation of the African Union’s Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCCO) to Zambia.

Speaking when he met members of the African Union committee of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) at State house this morning, President Lungu says ECOSOCC is very cardinal in the integration and development agenda of the African continent which is why Zambia is proud to be the new host of its headquarters.

President Lungu says the presence of ECOSOCC in Zambia will encourage the country to do more in reaching out to the remotest parts of the country through government’s transformation agenda.

He however, notes that this cannot be done without the involvement of civil society organizations and other stakeholder groups in the country.

He adds that government believes it is possible to uplift the living standards of the people, stating that his administration wants to make Zambia a better place for everyone.

President Lungu has since assured ECOSOCC of government’s support in ensuring that the council settles well in the country.

Earlier, ECOSOCC Presiding officer Dr. Joseph Chilengi says the adoption of Zambia’s request for the relocation of ECOSOCC headquarters to Lusaka shows the confidence the continent has in the leadership and people of Zambia.

Dr. Chilengi expressed gratitude that Zambia under the leadership of President Lungu is taking its rightful place in international diplomacy and international affairs.
