The opposition UPND is saddened that Norway has closed its embassy in Zambia.
The UPND finds the closure of the Norwegian embassy a great shame especially that Norway has one of the most generous aid budgets in the world.

UPND Chairperson for International Relations Mulondwe Muzungu notes that his party is however not surprised by the alleged reported comments from the Norwegian Ambassador Arve Ofstand that his Country has left because Zambia lacks genuine commitment to improving its resource management.
In a statement to Qfm News Mr. Muzungu has observed that these are particularly damning comments in a time of economic trouble, when the majority of our citizens are facing real hardship due to increased food prices, unemployment and rising crime.
Mr. Muzungu states that the UPND is however of the view that Mr. Ofstand’s comments are very fair.
He notes that it is clear to his party that Zambia has not done enough in this area to ensure that it begins to raise revenues locally as opposed to relying on borrowing all the time.
Mr. Muzungu states that the UPND thus thanks Mr. Ofstand for his candid comments about Zambia.
He says his party hopes that this message is well received by the PF government.
